Before leaving London for Antwerp, the athletes attended receptions at 10 Downing Street and the Belgian Embassy. They then spent four days seeing the sights of Antwerp before attending the opening ceremony on Saturday, September 13.
Niall competed in the 100m sprint, 200m and the 4 x 100m relay, winning a bronze medal in the 200m, a gold in the 100m and a silver medal in the relay.
Mum Ann said: “Niall has been doing athletics for around seven years, initially with Active Stirling’s Run Jump Throw sessions then being invited onto the Regional Squad. He was a founder member of Forth Valley Flyers athletics club. He would like to thank everyone who helped him attend the Special Olympics.”
Special thanks go to Margaret Strang who donated the takings from her annual New Year Ceilidh in the community centre to help Niall cover the £1250 expense of the trip.
